98 killed, hundreds missing after flash floods in Nepal, China

A catastrophic weather event has left at least 98 people dead and hundreds more missing across Nepal and China. According to reports from 205focus.com, massive flash floods have caused widespread destruction, burying buildings and obliterating roads as captured in grim drone footage.
Rising Death Toll and Missing Persons
The crisis escalated Wednesday with the prime minister’s office in Nepal confirming at least 95 fatalities. Meanwhile, China’s state broadcaster CCTV reported that a devastating mudslide in Gyirong County—located in the Tibet region near the border—has claimed at least three lives and left 265 people missing.
Official figures from Nepal highlight the scale of the tragedy, with 403 individuals reported missing, including 341 foreign nationals. Among those missing are 133 Indian pilgrims who were traveling to the sacred Mount Kailash site in Tibet. Tourism board spokesperson Sunil Sharma confirmed the scope of the disappearances, which also include 62 Nepalese citizens and 28 police officials, as noted by police spokesperson Abi Narayan Kafle.
Geological Context
The disaster occurred alongside seismic activity in the region. The U.S. Geological Survey documented a magnitude 4.4 earthquake early Wednesday morning, centered approximately 60 miles north of Kathmandu near the China-Tibet border. State news agency Xinhua continues to track reports of significant casualties throughout the affected zones.
