A sudden medical challenge
Hoover, who has served as a WHNT evening anchor since 2024, shared a candid update from Huntsville Hospital. The 50-year-old journalist explained that his medical journey began this summer after he experienced chest tightness while exercising. This symptom led him to consult his physician, where he underwent stress tests and an electrocardiogram.
Those initial tests prompted a heart catheterization, which revealed several blockages requiring immediate surgical intervention. For Hoover, the news came as a complete surprise, noting that he maintains a healthy lifestyle, does not smoke, rarely consumes alcohol, and exercises regularly.
A message to viewers
While many viewers are accustomed to seeing Hoover behind the news desk, he delivered his latest update directly from his hospital bed. He used the moment to emphasize the importance of listening to one's body and seeking professional medical advice the moment something feels abnormal.
"It just goes to show that you need to pay attention to your body," Hoover said. "Any sort of pain, anything that is abnormal, report it to your doctor. I’m here to tell you it’s very important to do."
