Fan-favorite roller coaster finally reopens as Alabama amusement park teases big announcement
The wooden roller coaster opened in 1998 and became a landmark attraction before shutting down in 2024.
The wait is finally over for fans of Alabama Adventure & Splash Adventure. The Bessemer amusement park has officially reopened its iconic wooden roller coaster, Rampage, ending a multi-year hiatus that left thrill-seekers eager for its return.
A Historic Return
Since its debut in 1998, the Rampage cemented itself as a premier attraction in the Southeast. After being shuttered in 2024, the coaster is back on the tracks. Park officials celebrated the reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony today, announcing that the ride will now operate daily beginning at 12 p.m.
General Manager Devikeo Johnson highlighted the emotional significance of the ride in an Instagram announcement. "Rampage isn’t just another ride," Johnson said. "For many of our guests, it’s a piece of Alabama Adventure history. It’s a coaster that generations of families have ridden together. It’s a ride people have asked about, talked about, and waited patiently to see return."
More Surprises on the Horizon
The excitement in Bessemer is just getting started. Beyond the return of the Rampage, park leadership has teased another significant announcement scheduled for Friday.
Alex Ramsey, the park’s director of marketing, told WVTM 13 that the upcoming reveal involves another mystery attraction that loyal visitors have been asking for. "This is more than just the return of Rampage," Ramsey added. "Friday marks the beginning of something special, and we have another surprise that many longtime guests have been hoping to see return."
