Life really was like a box of chocolates when it came to the marriage proposal Anya Taylor-Joy received from her Alabama-connected suitor.
Taylor-Joy, known for her breakout role in the Netflix series “Queen’s Gambit” and her recent starring role in the “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel “Furiosa,” married Malcolm McRae, a musician and model from the Birmingham area, in 2022. The couple had a private ceremony in New Orleans, followed by a more extravagant celebration in Venice in 2023.
In a recent reveal, Taylor-Joy shared that McRae's proposal happened by accident while they were sitting on a bench in Savannah, Georgia, famously featured in the movie “Forrest Gump.”
During a segment for the film enthusiast site Letterboxd, hosted by actor Chris Hemsworth, Taylor-Joy discussed four of her favorite films, including “Forrest Gump.” When Hemsworth asked if something special had happened on the “Forrest Gump” bench, Taylor-Joy confirmed, “Yes, my husband accidentally proposed to me on the Forrest Gump bench in Savannah. Complete accident, and he’s a boy from Alabama and I’m blonde. So, just happened.”
She added, “I hear that music and I cry like a baby.”
