Indiana Mother Charged with Felony Neglect After Toddler Son Drowns in Backyard Pool
An Evansville mother faces felony neglect charges after her 3-year-old son drowned in a pool while she was allegedly incapacitated by alcohol.

An Indiana mother is facing a felony charge of neglect of a dependent resulting in death following the tragic drowning of her 3-year-old son. Authorities in Evansville arrested 41-year-old Amie Jo Farber on September 19 after the child was discovered unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool at a residence on North Second Avenue.
According to police documents and court records, the incident began when Farber arrived at the home during the afternoon and asked the homeowner if her son could use the pool. The homeowner granted permission but explicitly told Farber she was responsible for supervising the child while he was in the water. Reports indicate the boy was using a flotation device while playing.
Investigators state that the homeowner went inside for several minutes. Upon returning outside, the homeowner found Farber unresponsive in a patio chair. The toddler was nowhere to be seen on the surface of the water. The homeowner eventually located the boy floating face-down in the pool and pulled him out. Although witnesses immediately began CPR and emergency services were called, the child was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Law enforcement officials allege that Farber had been consuming alcohol prior to the drowning. As part of the ongoing investigation, police obtained a warrant to test her blood for both alcohol and drugs. Farber is currently scheduled for her initial court appearance on September 23.
