A massive $167.3 million Powerball windfall hasn't steered one Kentucky man clear of legal trouble. James Farthing, 51, who claimed one of the largest prizes in state history earlier in 2025, was arrested early Sunday morning in Georgetown on a charge of public intoxication.
The incident began when a witness reported a white Ford Mustang stalled in the middle of an intersection. The vehicle eventually moved to a nearby Walmart parking lot, where deputies from the Scott County Sheriff's Office discovered the car still running with Farthing asleep behind the wheel. According to officials, it took several attempts of knocking on the window before the lottery winner woke up.
Upon contact, investigators noted several signs of impairment, including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and an inability to maintain balance. While Farthing reportedly claimed a woman had driven him to the location, police stated that surveillance footage did not support his version of events.
This latest arrest marks the fifth time Farthing has been taken into custody since his life-changing jackpot win. He was booked into the Scott County Detention Center and is currently awaiting a scheduled court appearance.
