Authorities are seeking assistance in locating the family members of three men who recently passed away in Jefferson County.

The bodies are ready for release for burial, but the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has been unable to notify their relatives.

Matthew Lee Gilmer, 37, was discovered deceased on July 26. He was found unresponsive under the Elton B. Stephens Expressway bridge at 4:41 p.m. that day. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is still under investigation, but there were no signs of trauma or foul play. Gilmer was homeless at the time and had previous addresses in the 100 block of 14th Street North in Birmingham, Center Point, and Leeds.

Lewis, whose last name is unknown, was a resident at Oak Knoll Health and Rehabilitation and under the care of Expect Care Hospice. He passed away from natural causes. His last known address was in Longview, Texas, but he had past addresses in various locations across Alabama and Georgia.

George Alton Walker, 47, was found deceased at 6:50 a.m. on August 2 in the 1800 block of Seventh Avenue North. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service discovered him unresponsive on a sidewalk near Fire Station #1. The cause of death is still under investigation, but there were no signs of trauma or foul play. Walker had listed multiple addresses in Anniston since 1998, and although there were potential family connections in various cities, efforts to locate them have been unsuccessful.
