Birmingham Man, 22, Charged with Shooting His Father in Shelby County

A Birmingham man has been charged in the weekend shooting of his father in Shelby County.

Casey Deandre Smith, 22, faces charges of attempted murder and first-degree domestic violence, according to sheriff’s officials who announced the charges on Thursday.

The incident occurred at 4:18 p.m. on Sunday at an apartment complex in the 200 block of Shoal Run Trail.

Deputies arrived to find the victim with a gunshot wound to the stomach. They provided aid at the scene before North Shelby Fire transported the victim to a Birmingham hospital.

The victim underwent surgery and is in stable condition, expected to survive.

Smith was detained shortly after the incident and is currently being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail.
