Man Fatally Shot While Seated in Vehicle at South Birmingham Apartment Complex

A man was shot and killed inside his vehicle Friday night at a south Birmingham apartment complex.

The victim, identified as 30-year-old Reco Dewayn Stevenson, was found in his vehicle in the 100 block of Penthouse Drive at Mountainside Apartments.

South Precinct officers were dispatched shortly before 9:30 p.m. on a report of a person shot. According to Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, police arrived to find Stevenson with at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

Wade stated that Stevenson was sitting in the vehicle when an unknown gunman fired multiple shots into it. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and no arrests have been made.

Stevenson is the 93rd homicide victim in Birmingham this year, with eight of those cases ruled justifiable and not deemed criminal. In total, Jefferson County has recorded 117 homicides, including those in Birmingham.
