Birmingham Man Faces Capital Murder Charges in Double Homicide, Two Others Injured

A 31-year-old Birmingham man, Kerry Jackson Jr., has been charged in connection with a quadruple shooting that claimed the lives of two people, including his grandfather.

Jackson faces multiple charges, including capital murder of two or more victims, capital murder during a kidnapping, and two counts of attempted murder.

According to authorities, Jackson allegedly forced an adult female family member into a vehicle at gunpoint, compelling her to drive him from one crime scene to the next.

The victims who lost their lives were identified as 49-year-old Laquitta Charisse Dunn and 76-year-old Anthony Jackson, the suspect's grandfather.

The shootings are believed to be domestic-related, and those close to Jackson told police he appeared to have "snapped."

Jackson was apprehended less than five hours after the shootings, with police crediting the swift arrest to the cooperation of family and community members.

Two other victims, Jackson's father and another woman, remain hospitalized at UAB with life-threatening injuries.

The violent spree began at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday when West Precinct officers responded to a report of multiple gunshot victims at a home in the 1600 block of Dennison Avenue.

Upon entering the residence, officers found Dunn, a cherished mother and grandmother, fatally wounded. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:20 p.m.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald reported that another man had been injured in the Dennison Avenue shooting, but he was not present when officers arrived. The victim, later identified as Jackson's father, was transported to Princeton Baptist Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and subsequently transferred to UAB Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Officers later received information that Jackson may have fired shots at a second location in the 1400 block of 17th Place S.W., not far from the initial scene.

Upon arrival, police discovered Jackson's grandfather and another woman in a basement den area. Anthony Jackson was pronounced dead at 5:50 p.m., while the woman was taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Jackson fled before police arrived at the second scene but was captured at approximately 9:15 p.m. in the Five Points West area following an extensive search that involved Jefferson County's Star 1 helicopter.

Officer Fitzgerald noted that the suspect knew all of his victims personally, emphasizing the tragic and senseless nature of the crime.

Jackson is currently being held without bond.
