LeBron James, PGA Tour partner to launch new golf event
The PGA Tour and LeBron James have partnered to launch the inaugural LeBron James Family Foundation Invitational next summer.
LeBron James is taking his talents from the hardwood to the fairways. In a major move for the sporting world, James and the PGA Tour have announced a new partnership to bring a brand-new golf event to his hometown of Akron, Ohio.
A New Tradition at Firestone
The inaugural LeBron James Family Foundation Invitational is officially set to hit the historic Firestone Country Club from July 6-7, 2027. The Tour announced the partnership Tuesday, marking a significant commitment to both the game of golf and the Akron community.
The Invitational will showcase competition on Firestone’s renowned South Course, featuring a mix of professional and amateur golfers participating in the PGA Tour’s Pathway to Progression program.
Empowering the Next Generation
Beyond the professional competition, the event is designed to serve as a catalyst for local youth. The foundation plans to introduce students from its “I PROMISE” program to the sport, offering unique mentorship opportunities and educational resources for students and families in the region.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the project, James shared a post to X, stating, “Excited for this and what it will continue to do for my kids, families and community!”
A Shared Vision for Growth
PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp emphasized the event's dual mission of honoring Firestone’s storied history while cultivating the future of the sport. “LeBron and the LeBron James Family Foundation have shown what is possible when that commitment is backed by action, and this partnership brings that shared vision to life,” Rolapp said.
Michele Campbell, executive director of the LeBron James Family Foundation, noted that the initiative is about more than just golf. “We’re excited to not only support more diverse golfers getting into the game, but to also expose our I PROMISE students and more youth in Akron to the world of possibilities that golf opens up,” Campbell said.
This partnership arrives on the heels of another major golf milestone for James, who launched his own golf channel on YouTube just one week ago. While the professional and celebrity participant lists remain under wraps for now, 205focus.com will continue to provide updates as more details become available.
