Scott Jennings is stepping up his unofficial audition for White House press secretary, issuing a bold call for President Donald Trump to formally declare victory over Iran. The CNN contributor, currently a lead contender to fill the role following the upcoming departure of Karoline Leavitt, laid out his argument on his radio show.
Defining the Win
Jennings argues that the U.S. has effectively neutralized Iran by dismantling its four primary pillars of power: its nuclear program, missile and drone capabilities, regional terror networks, and its influence over the Strait of Hormuz. According to Jennings, each of these areas has been either severely compromised or destroyed.
"The United States has won the war against Iran," Jennings stated. "Wars are won when one side achieves its strategic objectives and the other loses the ability to achieve its own."
A Contender in the Spotlight
As a familiar face on CNN’s NewsNight with Abby Phillip, Jennings is frequently seen defending the president’s policies. With Leavitt exiting the Trump administration at the end of the month, the search for a successor is in full swing. It was recently reported that Jennings met with Trump chief of staff Susie Wiles to discuss the position. When asked for his take on potential replacements, Trump signaled his approval, telling reporters simply, "Scott Jennings is good."
Combating the Narrative
Beyond the strategic breakdown of the war, Jennings utilized his platform to mirror the president’s approach toward political opposition. He pushed back against Democratic criticism, arguing that partisan animosity toward Trump is blinding opponents to American success.
"There’s nothing wrong with questioning a war or debating its cost and tactics," Jennings said. "But there is something deeply wrong with allowing partisan hatred to make you so emotionally invested in American failure, especially when that leads you to openly lie to the American people about what’s actually going on here."
