Walmart, Sam’s Club add ‘seamless’ payment option. When will it be at your store?

Shoppers at Walmart and Sam’s Club can look forward to a faster checkout experience. The retail giants are officially rolling out Tap to Pay, aiming to make every shopping trip more seamless and convenient from the moment you hit the register.

A New Way to Pay

Starting today, Aug. 24, select Walmart and Sam’s Club locations are beginning the transition to contactless payment systems, as announced by the companies. This update allows customers to move beyond traditional card swiping, enabling payments via eligible contactless cards, smartphones, and smartwatches.

Expanding Your Options

This update is all about providing customers with more flexibility and ease when paying for groceries, essentials, or gifts. In addition to standard digital payment methods, shoppers will have the option to add specific Walmart, Sam’s Club, and OnePay cards directly to their digital wallets for quick use at the point of sale.

When is it Coming to Your Store?

While the rollout begins immediately, the companies have confirmed that the new Tap to Pay feature will be available at all U.S. store locations by Dec. 31, 2026. If you are a frequent user of company fuel stations, note that the new payment technology is slated to reach those sites by mid-2027.

As 205focus.com continues to track updates on this rollout, keep an eye out for the contactless readers arriving at your local registers throughout the coming months.
