Former Alabama linebacker has ‘taken a huge step forward’ for Minnesota Vikings

Dallas Turner is poised for a significant role in the Minnesota Vikings' defense this fall. After a productive rookie campaign where he played 28 percent of snaps and tallied three sacks, the former Alabama star saw his workload double in 2025. Filling in while veterans dealt with injuries, Turner stepped up to record 66 tackles and eight sacks while logging 66 percent of the defensive snaps.

A New Opportunity

Minnesota cleared a path for the standout pass-rusher to move into a full-time starting role this offseason by trading Jonathan Greenard to the Philadelphia Eagles. The move solidifies Turner's status as a cornerstone of the defensive front entering the 2026 season.

High Praise and Development

Teammate Andrew Van Ginkel has been impressed by Turner's growth throughout the offseason. Van Ginkel noted that the young linebacker has taken a "huge step forward," citing his relentless work ethic during OTAs and his high internal standards as key reasons why he expects a breakout year for the Alabama product.

For Turner, the focus remains on the process. Speaking on his preparation, Turner emphasized that building confidence starts on the practice field long before game day. "I feel like the preparation comes first before any plays are being made," he explained. "It builds the confidence before you even go out there on the field."

Looking Ahead

As the Vikings wrap up their final week of the offseason program, Turner is gaining comfort in the defensive scheme. He shared that increased repetition has allowed him to better understand not just his assignments, but the responsibilities of his teammates across the entire unit. Despite having only 10 career starts, Turner is eager to step into a leadership role for a relatively young position group.

"I still have some type of experience that I could be some type of beacon or outlet," Turner said regarding his approach to mentoring new arrivals. Whether through his voice or by leading by example, he is ready to take on the responsibilities of an veteran presence.
