Defining the Opposition

Leavitt drew intense backlash in October 2025 during a Fox News appearance when she characterized the Democratic Party's constituency as a group comprised of “Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens and violent criminals.” Responding to comments made by then-NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, she argued that the Democratic base caters to “antisemites” and those looking to “freely roam in American streets.” Critics immediately condemned the rhetoric, accusing her of inciting violence.

Leavitt did not shy away from attacking the press, labeling stories surrounding the Epstein files as a “classic Washington hoax” during a November 2025 podcast appearance. She suggested such reports were merely part of a Democratic playbook designed to damage the president.

When questions arose regarding a visible bruise on the president's hand, Leavitt provided an explanation that became a flashpoint on social media. She claimed the discoloration was “consistent” with irritation from “frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin.” The answer was met with skepticism from outlets like MeidasTouch and liberal influencer David Pakman, who noted inconsistencies regarding the president’s medical history.

Contrasting Criticism

Leavitt also faced accusations of a lack of self-awareness early in 2026. On Jan. 15, she criticized protesters for displaying the middle finger at an ICE demonstration in Minnesota, stating that such actions occur when people in power encourage them. Her critics were quick to point out that only days earlier, the president himself had directed a similar gesture at a Ford plant employee in Michigan.

More recently, she targeted the “elitist crowd” in Hollywood following the Grammys. In remarks to reporters, she labeled celebrity criticism of ICE as ironic, accusing those who live in gated communities of ignoring cases involving Jocelyn Nungaray and Laken Riley. Leavitt insisted that the lack of Hollywood “uproar” regarding the previous administration's border policies highlighted the hypocrisy she sees within that industry.
