Reality TV show producer’s sudden death at 40 an ‘unimaginable loss’
He died while the hit reality series was filming its eighth season in Fiji calling it an “unimaginable loss.”
The production team behind "Love Island USA" is mourning the sudden passing of executive producer James Barker. Barker, who was 40, died last week in Fiji while the hit reality series was actively filming its eighth season.
A Tribute to a Valued Colleague
In a joint statement, ITV and Peacock confirmed the loss, describing it as an "unimaginable loss" for all involved. The network plans to honor Barker during Tuesday’s episode of "Love Island USA" following his unexpected medical emergency.
"James’ unimaginable loss has been deeply felt across not just the entire 'Love Island USA' production, but throughout all of ITV and Peacock," the statement read. "He was a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness, talent and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him."
A Career of Dedication
Barker’s industry impact spanned over a decade, beginning in 2011. Before his most recent work, he contributed to notable programs such as "Queer Eye," "Forged in Fire," and "Pawn Stars."
He initially joined the "Love Island USA" team in 2020 as a story producer. He earned a promotion to executive producer in January 2026, where he became instrumental in the show's soundtrack and post-production efforts. More information on the series can be found by visiting the official site.
