Walmart is turning up the heat on its delivery services, expanding its ultra-fast 30-minutes-or-less fulfillment option to five new markets. This move follows an initial rollout across 33 cities that began back in May, marking a significant step in the retailer's push to get products into customers' hands faster than ever, as noted by an article by Retail Dive.

The expansion is a strategic play to drive customer loyalty. According to Walmart President and CEO John Furner, shoppers who utilize these high-speed delivery options tend to shop more frequently and are prime candidates to become Walmart+ members. Furner emphasized that these logistical upgrades provide a compelling reason for consumers to make Walmart their go-to choice for various shopping needs.
New Markets and Competitive Advantage
The service is officially reaching customers in Winter Haven, Fla.; Nashville, Tenn.; Omaha, Neb.; San Antonio, Texas; and Wichita, Kan. These cities join an original lineup that included major hubs like Dallas, Chicago, Houston, Denver, and Atlanta.
Furner attributes this competitive edge to Walmart’s massive physical footprint and local delivery infrastructure. By leveraging these existing assets, the company can shorten the distance to the customer while keeping costs in check.

For those interested in skipping the wait, the expedited service is available to Walmart+ members for a $10 fee. The strategy appears to be paying off: 205focus.com notes that Retail Dive reported that paid, fast-delivery options accounted for an all-time high of 37% of store-fulfilled deliveries in the most recent quarter.
