Alabama football lands 5-star recruit in 2027 class

Alabama football’s official visit weekend just got a major boost, as the Crimson Tide secured their second commitment of the event. Kicker Luke Cody, a standout specialist, took to Instagram late Saturday night to announce his pledge to Alabama.

Meet the Newest Crimson Tide Commitment

Hailing from Lumberton, Texas, the 6-foot, 175-pound prospect is rated as a five-star kicker and a 4.5-star punter. According to Kohl’s Kicking, Cody ranks as the No. 9 kicker in the 2027 class. His impressive mechanics were on full display during the 2026 Kohl’s southern spring showcase, where he finished third in field-goal charting out of 326 participants.

Beyond his prowess on the gridiron, where he earned first-team all-district honors and special teams MVP accolades this past year, Cody has also garnered recognition for his talents in both baseball and soccer. Per his 247Sports bio, he holds an additional offer from Texas State.

Building the 2027 Class

Cody is the eighth verbal commitment in Alabama’s 2027 recruiting class. He joins a growing group that includes five-star quarterback Elijah Haven, four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon II, four-star running back Nigel Newkirk, four-star quarterback Trent Seaborn, three-star edge defender AJ Pauley, and tight ends Oakley Keegan and Michael Nnabuife.

While the class continues to grow, head coach Kalen DeBoer recently noted that the 2027 cycle will likely be smaller than previous years. Following classes of 27 players in 2026 and 21 in 2025, DeBoer explained during the SEC spring meetings in Miramar Beach, Florida, that high retention rates and a focus on transfer talent mean the program will not be targeting as large a group this time around.
