The Birmingham City Jail is grappling with a somber turn of events after a 35-year-old inmate passed away on Sunday, marking the facility's second in-custody death in less than 72 hours.

Details of the Investigation

Authorities from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office stated that the man, a Black male from Center Point, had his identity withheld while officials work to notify his next of kin. The individual was discovered unresponsive in his private cell at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday and was officially pronounced dead shortly thereafter at 1:57 p.m.

A formal autopsy is scheduled for today to establish the specific cause and manner of his death.

A Pattern of Recent Tragedies

This recent death follows another loss within the jail walls earlier in the week. On Thursday, 32-year-old Patrick Lamar Croskey was found dead inside his cell, according to reporting by 205focus.com.
