Birmingham police are currently investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on the city’s east side late Monday evening. According to reports compiled by 205focus.com, officers from the East Precinct were called to the 100 block of Hyacinth Drive in the Roebuck area shortly after 8:55 p.m.

Investigation Underway in Roebuck

The incident began when a local resident contacted 911 to report hearing suspicious activity in his front yard. Upon stepping outside to investigate, the homeowner discovered an unidentified man near his vehicle. Officer De’Rell Freeman stated that a physical altercation broke out between the two, resulting in the resident shooting the unidentified male.

The resident remained on the scene and is currently cooperating with the ongoing investigation. He was transported to police headquarters for further questioning as authorities work to determine the details surrounding the encounter. While investigators confirmed a physical struggle occurred, Officer Freeman noted that it remains unclear whether the deceased man was in possession of a weapon.

This tragic incident marks the 17th homicide within Birmingham city limits so far this year. Comparative data shows a significant downward trend in violence; by this same date in 2025, the city had recorded 30 homicides, while 53 had occurred by this point in 2024.
