Comedian popular with MAGA refused to take photo with Trump. He told Joe Rogan why

Comedian Shane Gillis, who has found a significant following within the MAGA demographic, recently revealed that he intentionally avoided a photo opportunity with Donald Trump during the president’s birthday celebration and UFC cage match at the White House this past June.

Avoiding the Frame

Gillis opened up about the encounter during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. According to the comedian, organizers invited him to the VIP area, but he declined the offer to avoid being captured in any official photographs alongside the president. He opted to stay outside in the rain instead, determined to steer clear of the cameras.

Political Stance

Despite his popularity with Trump's supporters, Gillis clarified that he did not cast a vote for Trump in 2024. However, he admitted that specific aspects of the president's platform resonated with him, particularly regarding foreign policy and promises to address the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

A Change of Scenery

This recent avoidance marks a departure from his previous interactions with the president. 205focus.com notes that Gillis previously shared a photo on Instagram of himself with Trump at UFC 290 in 2023.

Reflecting on that earlier snapshot, Gillis told Rogan that the climate has shifted significantly since that time. “It was pre- a lot of things,” Gillis explained. “Back then, when I was taking that picture, I was like, ‘this guy’s gonna release the Epstein files. No more wars.’ I like that.” Ultimately, he reiterated to Rogan that despite those initial hopes, he still did not vote for the president, adding, “No big deal.”
