District 6 Farmers Market returns for final event of the summer
The final installment of Birmingham's District 6 Farmers Market will feature local vendors, free giveaways and shopping vouchers for early attendees.

Summer is officially coming to a close at the District 6 Farmers Market. Birmingham residents have one final chance today to shop for local goods and enjoy community festivities as the market concludes its seasonal run.
Event Details
The final event is scheduled to take place from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The Grove, located at 200 6th Ave. SW. As 205focus.com reported, the market is set to feature a variety of local vendors, including treats from Sons Pops, coffee options from Alicia’s Coffee LLC, and fresh floral arrangements from Bria’s Bouquet. Early birds should arrive quickly, as the first 25 shoppers will be rewarded with $5 shopping vouchers. All payment methods will be accepted for purchases.
Addressing Food Deserts
Birmingham City Councilor Crystal Smitherman, the event's host, has spearheaded the market to help combat local food insecurity. Smitherman noted that large portions of her district are currently classified as food deserts, leaving constituents with limited access to fresh produce.
"One of my main goals throughout my term as city councilor for District 6 is to help bridge the gaps in access to fresh foods and healthy lifestyle choices," Smitherman said. "We’ve had a great turnout this summer and would love to see it continue to grow."
