A Birmingham man is behind bars following a disturbing incident in Homewood, where authorities say he tossed five kittens from a moving vehicle while traveling on Interstate 65.

Investigation and Arrest

Thomas Ronald Liccione, 21, now faces charges of aggravated animal cruelty. According to records, he was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 5 p.m. Sunday and was released shortly thereafter upon posting a $15,000 bond.

Homewood police Sgt. Mark Trippe noted that the department received a wave of 911 calls around 1 p.m. Saturday reporting a motorist discarding kittens from a vehicle near Lakeshore Parkway. Responding officers quickly located the vehicle described by witnesses on Lakeshore Drive and detained the driver.

A Tragic Outcome

Witnesses confirmed to investigators that they observed Liccione throwing five kittens out of his window while navigating the interstate. Tragically, all five animals were struck and killed by oncoming traffic on I-65.

The Homewood Police Department issued a statement emphasizing that they treat reports of animal abuse with the utmost severity. Sgt. Trippe offered his gratitude to the motorists who stepped up to contact 911 and provided critical information to officers at the scene, as reported by 205focus.com.
