Monday Night Lights: Chaminade-Madonna Faces Cardinal Gibbons in Rescheduled FHSAA Clash
Nationally-ranked Chaminade-Madonna travels to Fort Lauderdale for a Monday night showdown against Cardinal Gibbons at Dr. Bud Tight Field.
High school football takes center stage this Monday as the nationally-ranked Chaminade-Madonna Lions (3-1) head to Fort Lauderdale for an FHSAA nonconference battle against the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs (2-2). Originally set for Friday, Sept. 18, the matchup was moved to Monday, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m. following safety concerns regarding the playing surface at Dr. Bud Tight Field.
The Lions arrive with significant momentum following a decisive 42-30 victory over True North Classical Academy. Quarterback Brady Quinn has been the engine of the Hollywood-based offense, coming off a stellar performance where he completed 14 of 19 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns. Through four games this season, Quinn has already amassed 657 passing yards and 10 touchdowns, solidifying his role as a premier signal-caller in the region.
On the other side of the ball, Cardinal Gibbons is eager to break a two-game losing streak. After starting the season strong with wins over McArthur and Calvary Christian Academy, the Chiefs suffered narrow defeats to Monarch (20-13) and Coconut Creek (21-17). Despite the setbacks, senior quarterback Tyler Chance has been a statistical standout, throwing for 909 yards and seven touchdowns. His primary deep threat, sophomore Javian Norwood, has emerged as a breakout star, averaging more than 65 receiving yards per contest.
History favors the Lions in this rivalry. Chaminade-Madonna holds a dominant 5-1 all-time series lead and has claimed victory in the last three meetings between the two programs. Cardinal Gibbons’ only win in the series dates back to 2016. Fans unable to attend the 6 p.m. kickoff in person can catch the action live on the NFHS Network, which also offers on-demand replays and a multiviewer feature for those tracking multiple games across the state.
