Never mind the Margaritaville hype, Last Mango’s menu is no gimmick

The Orange Beach dining scene has a fresh contender with the arrival of Jimmy Buffett’s Last Mango Bar & Chill at The Wharf. While the name might hint at a larger Margaritaville footprint on the horizon, this spot is proving that it is far more than just a promotional gateway.

Beyond the Brand

Forget the notion of a typical tourist trap laden with overplayed songs and cheesy references. While you will find memorabilia, photos of the late icon, and a gift shop on-site, the restaurant succeeds because it prioritizes quality. It manages to capture a genuinely "chill" atmosphere while keeping the kitchen focused on fresh ingredients and thoughtful presentation.

A Menu That Delivers

The menu is concise, split between two pages of food and drink options, avoiding the pitfall of trying to offer too much. With eight appetizers and 18 entrees, the selection balances approachable favorites like Chicken Tenders ($16) and Tater Tot Nachos ($16) with more sophisticated fare.

The Ahi Tuna Nachos were a standout experience. Combining wontons, generous portions of tuna and avocado, and a bright, citrusy punch from the togarashi sauce and ponzu glaze, the dish provided a savory complexity that was as visually impressive as it was flavorful.

For entrees, the Gulf-caught Red Snapper ($28) offered a masterclass in preparation. Seared and blackened with skin-on, it was paired with thick fried green tomatoes and a side of mango slaw that avoided the heavy dressing common in many kitchens, opting instead for a crisp, light finish.

Even the burger options maintain a high standard. The Alabama Firecracker Burger ($20) blends a signature patty with smoked bacon, white American cheese, jalapeno cream cheese, and a touch of hot honey on a brioche-style bun. It is a satisfying, well-executed staple that fits the venue's laid-back vibe perfectly.

The Setting

Whether dining inside the airy, naturally lit interior or out at the large open-air bar located under The Wharf's archway, guests have plenty of room to stretch out. The view of the marina is a highlight, and keen observers might spot the development of the future Margaritaville complex across the Intracoastal Waterway.

Between sips of a Stranded on a Sandbar cocktail ($12.50) or a Watermelon Lemonade ($12), it is easy to see why this spot is worth the visit. You don't need a specific theme to enjoy good food, and at Last Mango, the menu stands comfortably on its own merits.

Last Mango Bar & Chill is located on Marlin Circle at The Wharf in Orange Beach.
