New York-based global financial network expanding Birmingham office, hiring 90

StoneX Group, a global financial services powerhouse based in New York, is making a major move in Birmingham. The company announced Thursday that it is expanding its local presence, a growth initiative expected to bring 90 new jobs to the city over the next three to five years.

A High-Tech Workspace in Protective Center

The expansion is anchored by a new 46,000-square-foot office located in the Protective Center. Designed to foster innovation and connection, the facility will be equipped with advanced audio and video capabilities, dedicated collaboration areas, and modern meeting spaces. Employees will also enjoy premium amenities including a full cafeteria, an on-site coffee shop, and a fitness center, with the office supporting a total of 310 seats.

Building on a Local Legacy

StoneX brings a long-standing history to this latest expansion. As a Fortune 500 firm, its securities clearing operations have maintained a foothold in Birmingham for more than 25 years. This presence was bolstered in 2016 when the company acquired Sterne Agee, a firm with roots in the South dating back to 1901.

Maribeth Williams, head of securities operations at StoneX, emphasized that Birmingham remains a cornerstone of the company's strategy. "Its deep financial services roots, strong talent base, and supportive business environment make it an ideal location to continue scaling critical operational capabilities that support our global platform," Williams said.

The project has drawn praise from state leadership. Alabama Department of Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair noted that the expansion serves as "further proof of the city’s standing in this market and what it and Alabama can offer companies looking to grow."
