Alabaster ranks No. 34 on Fortune Well’s list of the 50 Best Places to Live for Families.
Fortune Well, an offshoot of Fortune Magazine focused on working professionals, evaluated over 2,000 cities across the United States. The assessment considered nearly 200 data points across five main themes: education, resources for aging adults, general wellness, financial health, and livability.
According to Fortune, cities with home sale prices more than twice the state median were excluded. The analysis also factored in socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic diversity.
In its review of Alabaster, Fortune Well highlighted the city’s affordability, strong school system, and Shelby Baptist Medical Center, the largest medical facility in Shelby County.
Additionally, Alabaster offers a variety of recreational activities.
“The 940-acre Oak Mountain State Park, Alabama’s largest, is just a 10-minute drive away for hikers, bikers, and campers. The nearby Cahaba River is perfect for canoeing or fishing, with more than 135 fish species,” Fortune Well noted. “Within the city, there are numerous green spaces, such as Veterans Park and Buck Creek Park, offering everything from softball fields to walking trails.”
