Witnesses Needed for Investigation into Fatal Shootout at The Quest Nightclub in Birmingham

Authorities are urging witnesses to step forward regarding the fatal shooting at a Birmingham nightclub in May, which resulted in the deaths of two men.

Shane Gady and Terrance Terrell Brown Jr., both 32, were identified as the individuals who fatally shot each other, but investigators still seek further details.

“We know the who, what, when, and how,’’ stated Officer Truman Fitzgerald. “What we don’t know is the why.”

Both patrons and police provided aid to Gady and Brown until Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service arrived. Brown was declared dead at the scene at 6:44 a.m., while Gady was transported to UAB Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Investigators recovered two firearms from inside the nightclub near the area where the shots were fired.

“As a police department, we want the facts to close this case, not our opinions,’’ Fitzgerald emphasized.

“We know Terrell and Shane shot each other,’’ he continued. “But we don’t know who was the aggressor and who was reacting.”

Birmingham police are determined to keep the case open until all questions are answered.

“We owe it to both families to have the facts speak for themselves,’’ Fitzgerald said.

The Quest, a popular dance club since the 1970s, has experienced multiple violent incidents over the past three years, including another homicide and the shooting of a Birmingham police officer.

Fitzgerald assured potential witnesses they could remain anonymous and encouraged them to come forward. “We want people to feel comfortable coming forward,’’ he said. “Our main concern is the information.”
