50 players Alabama fans need to know: The transfer who could revitalize the Tide’s kicking game

EDITOR’S NOTE: Between now and the unofficial kickoff to the football preseason at SEC Media Days on July 20, 205focus.com is profiling one Alabama football player every day. Today, we turn our attention to incoming transfer kicker Lorcan Quinn.

Profile: Lorcan Quinn

6-foot-1, 196 pounds, Donaghmore, Ireland

Before 2025, Lorcan Quinn had never stepped foot on an American football field. Hailing from Northern Ireland with a background in Gaelic sports, Quinn arrived at Marshall and took to the American game with surprising ease. His debut season was nothing short of stellar, resulting in first-team All-Sun Belt honors and making him one of the most coveted specialists in the transfer portal ahead of the 2026 season.

A Leg for the Long Ball

Quinn brings an elite level of accuracy and range to the Crimson Tide. Last year, he was a perfect 5-for-5 on kicks between 40 and 49 yards. His consistency from deep was equally impressive, as he converted 4-of-6 attempts from beyond 50 yards, boasting a career-long boot of 55 yards.

The Battle for Special Teams

After a 2025 campaign marred by inconsistency at the kicker position, Alabama is looking for stability. While returning kicker Conor Talty remains on the roster to compete for the job, Quinn appeared to hold the advantage during the team's A-Day scrimmage. Talty, who struggled with consistency throughout the previous season, faced fan scrutiny after an on-field outburst directed at his long-snapper during a loss to Oklahoma.

Coach DeBoer’s Perspective

During the SEC spring meetings in May, head coach Kalen DeBoer praised Quinn’s composure and leg strength, noting that he never worries about the distance of an attempt. Alabama hopes Quinn can fill the void left by the departure of Will Reichard, who finished his legendary tenure in 2023.

Regarding his specialists, DeBoer emphasized the importance of mental fortitude: “What you always want with the specialists, if it’s not perfect, how does it affect them? Whether it’s perfect in the moment, in his case with a snap and a hold, does it get to him? How does it affect him? Also after a kick, good and bad, it can be good and that doesn’t mean anything going into the next kick. Or it can be bad, and how does it affect your psyche and all that?”

COMING FRIDAY: We feature another transfer, defensive back Carmelo O’Neal, who joins the Crimson Tide from Mercer.
