50 Auburn players fans should know: Why this safety is eyeing a starting role this fall

EDITOR’S NOTE: Between now and the unofficial kickoff to the football preseason at SEC Media Days on July 20, 205focus.com is featuring one Auburn football player per day. We continue the series today with safety AnQuon Fegans.

Rising Star in the Secondary

After serving as one of only three Auburn freshmen to appear in all 12 games last season, sophomore safety AnQuon Fegans is firmly positioning himself as a primary contender for a Day 1 starting role this fall.

Fegans made a notable impact during the 2025 season, logging 24 tackles, a pass breakup, and an interception. However, recent developments this spring suggest his trajectory is pointing toward even greater production as he maneuvers to secure his place in the defensive lineup.

Making an Impression

The sophomore's potential was on full display during a private practice session held for recruits, where he hauled in three interceptions. This high-level performance has drawn positive feedback from the coaching staff regarding the energy of the secondary.

"That safety group is youthful at times," said Auburn coach Alex Golesh. "AnQuon Fegans and those guys bring really cool energy to it."

Versatility and Ambition

Fegans has been testing his range across the secondary this spring, taking reps at various positions to maximize his impact. While he is comfortable playing throughout the defensive backfield, he maintains a clear preference for the nickel spot.

"I actually love playing nickel a lot," Fegans shared. "Who wouldn’t want to cover a guy one-on-one? I feel like I do a very good job of that. It’s always good to go out there and cover a guy one-on-one. The more versatile I am on film, the better it’ll be for me for my future."

Depth and Expectations

Fegans is part of an Auburn safety room that stands out as perhaps the deepest group on the roster. The competition for playing time is stiff, featuring talents like Kaleb Harris, Eric Winters, Champ Anthony, and Sylvester Smith-Reed.

With fall camp set to begin during the first week of August, Fegans is expected to be a pivotal figure in setting the defensive tempo for the Tigers as they prepare for the season ahead.
