Kalen DeBoer calls on Alabama fans to support Ryan Coleman-Williams: ‘The guy is grinding’

Alabama football head coach Kalen DeBoer has taken notice of the relentless effort Ryan Coleman-Williams is putting in as he prepares for his junior campaign. During his visits to the weight room throughout May, DeBoer noted that Coleman-Williams was a consistent fixture, showcasing a level of dedication that hasn't gone unnoticed by the coaching staff.

A Grinding Mentality

Speaking at the SEC spring meetings in Miramar Beach, Florida, DeBoer praised the wide receiver's work ethic. Reflecting on the quiet nature of offseason training, DeBoer told reporters, "He’s doing the work behind the scenes. It’s silent right now because no one is really paying attention and it’s summer time. The guy is grinding. He wants it bad. He’s the ultimate competitor."

Looking to Bounce Back

Coleman-Williams enters this season aiming to return to his freshman-year form. After posting 865 yards and eight touchdowns in 2024, his production saw a dip in 2025, recording 689 yards and four touchdowns. Despite that statistical shift, his reception numbers remained steady, and the Alabama coaching staff is banking on his leadership to elevate the offense this fall.

DeBoer’s Full Support

Beyond his on-field contributions, DeBoer emphasized the character Coleman-Williams displays daily. "We need him to be a leader, and he is," the head coach stated. "He’s an easy guy to root for. I’m rooting for this guy. Anyone who knows him, anyone who follows us, is a supporter or fan of ours, needs to do the same. The guy is giving everything he has."

DeBoer highlighted the player's maturity as he faces the pressures of the spotlight. "The spotlight is always on him and the way he handles it each and every day through hard work and gratitude and giving of his time to people, knowing that he’s a role model to many, I couldn’t be more proud of this guy," DeBoer added.
