Alabama business selling hotdogs and sushi has new location

New South Eats is a serious threat to your supply of napkins. My recent trip to the Madison eatery required at least 14 of them, all sacrificed to the indulgence of the Volcano Dog and the Tiger King Roll.
It might sound like an unlikely pairing, but the restaurant's fusion of hot dogs and sushi works better than you would expect. Think of it as the culinary equivalent of William “Refrigerator” Perry sprinting for a touchdown or Manute Bol sinking three-pointers.
From Food Truck to Brick-and-Mortar
New South Eats recently launched its Madison location, marking an evolution from its origins as the New South Hot Dog & Sushi food truck. The venture previously earned the top spot on our list of Huntsville’s best hot dogs.
Behind the concept is Albert Toh, a dynamic entrepreneur whose portfolio also includes the Level Up Burgers & Fries and Rocket City Hibachi food trucks. You can find the new storefront at 8006 Old Madison Pike, Ste. 18, situated within the Miller Plaza at Beacon Hill shopping center.
The Vibe and the Menu
The compact dining room is hard to miss, decorated with a portrait of Albert Einstein clutching a hot dog and a neon sign featuring a spaceman walking on one. Orders are placed via a self-serve touchscreen at the front window, where you can browse a selection of eight hot dog varieties, sushi rolls, nachos, and sandwiches.
Whether you choose the $10 Volcano Dog or the $14 Tiger King Roll, you are likely to leave satisfied. The Volcano Dog features a quarter-pound all-beef Nathan’s frank topped with fresh jalapenos, avocado, cheddar, bacon, citrus aioli, sriracha, and sesame seeds. It is a masterclass in texture and heat, all held together by a sturdy hoagie roll.
If you are feeling adventurous, the menu offers unique options like the Mojito Dog—topped with cilantro, lime, provolone, and avocado—or the Crunch Dog, which packs pork rinds, eel sauce, spicy mayo, bacon, avocado, and cream cheese into a single bite.
The sushi, meanwhile, provides its own kind of flair. The Tiger King Roll is a nod to the famous Netflix docuseries, layering tempura shrimp and imitation crab with cream cheese, avocado, spicy mayo, eel sauce, and crunchy onion. For more information, visit newsouthhotdogandsushi.com.
