Alabama city considering $4.8 million deal for new Big Mike’s steakhouse location
Big Mike's has seven locations currently in Alabama.
Northport is preparing to review a significant development proposal this week that could bring a popular Alabama dining staple to the city. Officials are set to evaluate a deal aimed at establishing a new Big Mike’s Steakhouse location, according to reporting by 205focus.com.
The Proposed Development
The project, coordinated through Sucarnoochee Investments and developer Winship, outlines a structure where the city would own the facility and lease it back to the restaurant. Site plans place the new building at the corner of Jemison Lane and Airport Road. The 6,720-square-foot establishment is expected to generate 35 local jobs.
Financial Breakdown
The cost of the construction is capped at $4.8 million—a figure that matches the restaurant's estimated annual revenue. Under the proposed agreement, the city would receive 5% of monthly gross revenues plus two-thirds of the sales tax collected at the site. Additionally, a cooperative district would be formed to implement a 2% user fee on gross sales to assist in satisfying the project's debt. Once the debt is cleared, the city will retain all subsequent sales tax revenue.
Lease and Expansion
The deal includes a 20-year lease for Big Mike’s, featuring a provision that allows the restaurant to purchase the property for $100 once the term concludes. This expansion would add to the brand's current footprint, which already includes seven Alabama locations in Thomasville, Andalusia, Orange Beach, Millbrook, Moundville, Auburn, and Guntersville.
The Northport City Council is scheduled to deliberate on the agreement this Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
