Birmingham Mayor Urges Support for Biden Following Presidential Call

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin has declared his full support for President Joe Biden following a recent conference call with over 200 Democratic mayors.

The call, held on Tuesday, was part of the Biden administration’s efforts to solidify his standing within the Democratic Party after his performance in a debate with former President Donald Trump last month.

In light of Biden's recent appeals to congressional Democrats and other public statements calling for party unity despite criticisms of his debate performance, Woodfin expressed his endorsement of Biden and his vision for the country.

“I participated in the president’s call this week with mayors,” Woodfin stated. “He was steadfast in his commitment to lead our nation for the next four years. The people selected President Biden as our nominee, not politicos and mega donors. It is time to stand by him and support his agenda to grow our middle class, make healthcare more accessible and affordable, and revitalize our cities.”

According to The Hill, Biden used the 40-minute call to outline his plans to reduce costs for working families if re-elected for a second term. His agenda includes making prescription drugs more affordable, offering free community college, and implementing universal background checks for gun purchases alongside an assault rifle ban.

“The Biden-Harris administration is making transformative investments in cities like Birmingham through grants like CHOICE Neighborhoods and Reconnecting Communities. I support him to finish the job in a second term,” Woodfin added.
