A Center Point teenager has been arrested on murder charges in connection with the March killing of a 25-year-old man in Birmingham, police announced Wednesday.
Jaiden Davis, 19, of Center Point, was already in custody for a separate March homicide in Birmingham when he was charged with the March 16 murder of Keenetheen Royall, 25, according to Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
Royall, a Birmingham resident, was fatally shot in the 1200 block of 4th Avenue West.
The city’s ShotSpotter gunfire detection system recorded 15 to 20 rounds in the area. "Calls started coming in about shots being heard," Fitzgerald said at the time of Royall’s death.
Witnesses reported hearing the gunfire and suggested that a Glock switch, which can convert a handgun into a fully automatic weapon, might have been used—an observation consistent with the sounds recorded by ShotSpotter.
Fitzgerald added that the system detected gunfire over several blocks.
Prior to being charged in Royall’s case, Davis had been arrested for the March 11 murder of Jerry Lewis Jr., who was shot and killed in the 10 block of 1st Avenue Southwest, Fitzgerald said.
Davis is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond on both murder charges.
