Donald Trump storms out ‘Meet the Press’ interview: ‘You’re either crooked or you’re stupid’

Tensions flared during a recent appearance on NBC's “Meet The Press” as President Donald Trump cut his interview with Kristen Welker short. The exchange, which took place on Friday and aired this past Sunday, saw the former president walk away following a heated debate regarding federal investigations.
The Clash Over the Anti-Weaponization Fund
The confrontation began when Welker questioned Trump about his proposed $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund. The initiative is intended to support individuals who claim to be victims of federal persecution, specifically those involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Trump defended the participants, claiming they had “lost everything” and alleged that FBI agents had actually “ushered them into the building.” When Welker pushed back, noting there was “no evidence of that,” the interview grew increasingly combative.
‘Crooked or Stupid’
Trump dismissed the host's pushback, reiterating his support for the fund while criticizing the Biden administration. “I don’t know what’s going to happen with the weaponization fund,” Trump remarked, adding that he wanted to protect those he believes were wrongly jailed. As the conversation turned toward the legitimacy of past and current elections, Trump insisted, “There’s tremendous evidence. There’s nothing but evidence.”
As Welker continued to press him on his claims, the situation devolved quickly. “They’re crooked just like you’re crooked, your press is crooked,” Trump said. “And ‘Meet the Press’ is crooked.” After Welker replied, “To be fair, I’m not crooked,” Trump fired back, “Well, you play right into their hands then. You’re either crooked or you’re stupid.”
