Father shot dead in front of family during argument at Birmingham barber shop

A tragic act of violence unfolded in south Birmingham this past Saturday, as a husband and father was shot and killed while with his family at a local barber shop.

Investigation into the fatal shooting

The incident occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. outside La Vida Barberia Spa Y Estilismo, located in a West Valley Avenue strip mall. Birmingham Police Sgt. LaQuitta Wade confirmed that officers and fire medics were dispatched to the scene following reports of a shooting.

Despite the immediate efforts of paramedics to provide life-saving care, the victim was pronounced dead on the sidewalk. Authorities stated that the victim and the suspect were acquaintances who became engaged in a physical altercation outside the business. During the confrontation, the suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the area. Police were able to take the suspect into custody a short time later.

Witnesses and next steps

At the time of the shooting, several customers were present inside the business, including the victim’s own family. Multiple witnesses were subsequently transported to police headquarters to assist with the investigation. It remains unclear at this time if the suspect was an employee or a customer at the shop.
