Georgia-based Mexican chain expanding into Birmingham and Tuscaloosa
The eatery offers burritos, tacos, bowls, quesadillas and salads with customizable options.
Get ready for a fresh flavor injection in the Magic City and Tuscaloosa. Barberitos, the fast-casual chain famous for its customizable Mexican cuisine, has officially announced plans to plant its flag in the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa markets as part of a major Alabama expansion.
A New Taste Coming to Alabama
The Athens, Georgia-based brand has inked a five-unit franchise agreement with entrepreneur Kevin Gessert. While specific opening dates and addresses are still under wraps, the company confirmed that these new locations are slated to debut later this year. This move marks the very first time the chain will serve customers in the Tuscaloosa area.
Barberitos currently boasts a footprint of 45 restaurants across the Southeast, including existing Alabama spots in Prattville and Wetumpka. As reported by 205focus.com, the menu will feature the brand's signature burritos, tacos, bowls, quesadillas, and salads.
A Personal Connection
For Gessert, a University of Georgia alumnus, the expansion is personal. He grew fond of the brand during his time as a student in Athens and hasn't found a replacement for it since graduation.
"I fell in love with Barberitos as a student at UGA and never found anything quite like it after leaving Athens," Gessert stated in the release. Regarding the shift to Alabama, he added, "Birmingham is a city that appreciates quality food and strong hospitality, and we’re excited to introduce Barberitos to a completely new market."
