This is Birmingham’s newest TV meteorologist

WBRC News 6 is bolstering its weather team this month with the addition of a new meteorologist. The station announced Monday that Carlyn McCreary is joining the staff, pushing the WBRC weather department to a total of seven meteorologists and solidifying its position as the largest weather team in Alabama.

A New Voice for First Alert Weather

McCreary arrives at the Gray Television station with a strong academic foundation. A Kentucky native, she earned her meteorology degree from the University of Oklahoma, where she also made a name for herself as an award-winning student reporter.

WBRC 6 News Director Shannon Maze believes McCreary’s arrival will prove vital for Central Alabama viewers. "Carlyn brings a strong forecasting background, a passion for storytelling, and a genuine commitment to serving viewers," Maze said. "Dependable weather coverage is the most important promise we make to our audience, and she is a great fit for the First Alert Weather Team. We look forward to our viewers getting to know her and seeing the impact she’ll have across Central Alabama."

Weather Experience with Personal Perspective

McCreary’s dedication to her craft is rooted in personal experience with extreme weather. Having lived through a house fire sparked by lightning, as well as the 2022 flooding that destroyed her grandmother’s home, McCreary brings a unique perspective to her reporting. She is deeply passionate about helping viewers navigate and manage storm anxiety.
