Grocery store chain opening another Huntsville area location

Huntsville-area shoppers have another grocery option arriving soon. Food City is set to debut its latest north Alabama location on July 22 in Athens, marking the fifth of six planned stores for the company within the Huntsville market.

Store Details and Grand Opening

The new 57,000-square-foot facility is located on Lucas Ferry Road and is scheduled to hold its grand opening at 8 a.m. Following the positive reception of the company's first four locations in the region, CEO Steven Smith expressed confidence in the new expansion.

Amenities and Offerings

This Athens location is packed with amenities designed for modern convenience. The store will feature:

  • A bakery and deli equipped with a hot food bar and cafe seating.
  • A fresh food bar offering soups, salads, and fruit.
  • Specialty food options including a hickory wood smoker and fresh sushi.
  • Full-service meat, seafood, and expanded produce departments.
  • Full catering services.

Beyond groceries, the store includes a Food City Floral Boutique staffed by a professional designer seven days a week, a pharmacy, and a Starbucks cafe. For those on the go, the site also features a Food City Gas N’ Go station, while online shoppers can utilize curbside pickup and home delivery services.

A Growing Footprint

“Our customers can expect exceptional service, top-quality products at the lowest possible prices, and outstanding variety and selection,” Smith stated. This expansion is part of a broader network for the parent company, which currently operates 162 retail outlets spanning Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama.
