Gunfire during marijuana sale in Dothan leaves 1 woman injured, another woman jailed
Peyton Ann Kroger, of Ozark, is charged with one count of first-degree assault, two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle, and one count of shooting into an occupied building.
A routine drug deal in Dothan turned violent over the weekend, resulting in a woman being hospitalized and an Ozark resident behind bars. 205focus.com reported that Dothan police were called to a business in the 3700 block of South Park Avenue just after 10 p.m. last Friday following reports of gunfire.
Details of the Investigation
According to Dothan Police Chief William Benny, the confrontation began when a group meeting to purchase marijuana engaged in a heated argument after the payment process stalled. The situation escalated quickly when Peyton Ann Kroger allegedly pulled a firearm and began shooting.
Investigators say one bullet struck a business near the scene as the group attempted to flee. As the individuals tried to escape in a vehicle, Kroger reportedly approached the car and fired additional rounds, one of which struck a female victim in the upper chest.
Aftermath and Charges
Following the shooting, the victims fled to the roundabout at Campbellton Road and Taylor Road to meet with law enforcement. Officers arrived to provide on-scene treatment before paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital. She was treated and released that same night.
Peyton Ann Kroger is now in custody at the Houston County Jail, where she is being held without bond. She faces serious charges, including one count of first-degree assault, two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle, and one count of shooting into an occupied building, as originally detailed by AL.com.
