Morgan Wallen reacts to criticism for canceling show: ‘I’ve been seeing a lot of nonsense’
The country music star took to social media to explain.
Country music superstar Morgan Wallen is firing back at critics following a wave of backlash sparked by his decision to cancel a Saturday night performance in Pittsburgh.
Addressing the Backlash
The cancellation, which was prompted by concerns over impending severe weather, left fans frustrated when the storms failed to hit the city as anticipated. Wallen took to his Instagram Stories to address the situation directly.
"That was the information I had in that moment, and I trusted my team," Wallen said. He noted that while local conditions in Pittsburgh remained calm at the time, his production team consulted with local officials and advised that the large stage setup posed a potentially fatal risk to attendees given the forecast.
Clearing the Air
Wallen emphasized that he made the call based on the data available to him at the time. "I’ve been seeing a lot of nonsense about me that is simply not true, and I just wanted to clear the air," Wallen stated. "I think my true fans know that that’s not how I operate in general, but I had to say it."
While the city proper avoided the worst of the weather, reports from Trib Live indicate that areas south of Pittsburgh did sustain damage from high winds and a "possible brief tornado," highlighting the volatile conditions that influenced the difficult decision to scrap the show.
