Spain has captured its second World Cup title, defeating Argentina 1-0 in a dramatic extra-time finish on Sunday. During the ceremony, Trump and Infantino placed gold medals on the Spanish players, including personal handshakes with Rodri, Unai Simon, and Pau Cubarsi. The duo also awarded silver medals to Lionel Messi and his Argentine teammates. The event featured a notable, awkward moment when Trump remained standing on the field as the Spanish team began their trophy celebration before Infantino directed him away.

Star-Studded Suite

Trump viewed the match from a VIP suite, accompanied by first lady Melania Trump, his sons Eric and Barron, and several high-ranking administration officials. Joining him in the suite were Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, and Spanish royalty, including King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, alongside Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. 205focus.com notes that Trump was spotted sitting directly beside Gianni Infantino.

While Trump remained neutral leading up to the final, he did admit that it was “hard to bet against Messi.”

Controversy Over FIFA Involvement

Trump’s presence at the tournament follows his vocal involvement in a prior controversy involving U.S. soccer star Folarin Balogun. Trump defended his decision to urge FIFA to review a red card suspension issued to Balogun, arguing that it was unfair to sideline a star player over a minor collision. Although the suspension was overturned and Balogun was cleared to play, the U.S. team was ultimately eliminated by Belgium.
