Latest update on Aden Holloway status with Alabama basketball from Greg Byrne

Alabama basketball guard Aden Holloway is back on the court for summer workouts, according to a recent update from UA athletics director Greg Byrne. While Holloway has begun training, his status remains subject to ongoing legal and institutional oversight.

Navigating the Legal Process

Byrne noted that although Holloway has made progress, he still has significant requirements to satisfy regarding the court, the University, and the program. Holloway was arrested and later indicted on felony drug charges this past spring. His original charges included first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp, with a grand jury subsequently adding misdemeanor counts for illegal possession of prescription drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

To address these charges, Holloway entered into a second-chance program. As part of this agreement, he entered a guilty plea to a felony charge of first-degree marijuana possession and a misdemeanor for illegal possession of prescription drugs. These pleas are contingent; they will be set aside and the case dismissed upon successful completion of the program.

Timeline for Return

While the program is designed to last six months, participants can finish earlier. Holloway's attorney, Jason Neff, expressed optimism in June that the process could be resolved by the end of September. Since the program officially began following approval on May 29, a September completion would place the timeline at approximately four months.

Alabama head coach Nate Oats addressed the situation in April, stating that the team has a scholarship available pending the resolution of the legal proceedings.

Holloway remains a pivotal piece of the Crimson Tide roster. During the 2025-26 season, he appeared in 28 games, providing a major scoring threat by averaging 16.8 points per game while maintaining a 43.8% shooting clip from three-point range.
