A tragic head-on collision in Etowah County has claimed the life of a 73-year-old woman. According to Alabama State Troopers, the fatal incident occurred on the afternoon of June 11.

Crash Details

Authorities have identified the victim as Ruth D. Cagle, a resident of Leesburg. The crash took place at approximately 2:55 p.m. on U.S. 411 near Anderson Road, situated roughly one mile north of Gadsden.

Investigation Underway

Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey reported that Cagle was a passenger in a Nissan Juke that collided head-on with a Toyota Highlander. The Highlander was operated by 46-year-old Gaines C. Smith of Vestavia Hills.

Following the impact, Cagle was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Nissan, 76-year-old Denver J. Cagle, and the driver of the Toyota, Smith, both sustained injuries and were transported to Riverview Medical Center for treatment.
