TV star shortened Broadway performance to get to NBA Finals to support Knicks

Mariska Hargitay refused to let a little thing like a Broadway schedule stand in the way of witnessing history. The Law & Order star went to extraordinary lengths to ensure she was in the building at Madison Square Garden for Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

A Sprint to the Garden

To make the tip-off for the New York Knicks' historic showdown against the San Antonio Spurs, Hargitay actually trimmed the running time of her Broadway show, Every Brilliant Thing. Following a demanding two-show day—which included a 2 p.m. matinee and a 7 p.m. performance that concluded at 8:27 p.m. ET—Hargitay faced a logistical nightmare.

“I took four minutes off the running time of my show, and I knew the traffic would be crazy, so I sprinted from the Hudson Theater on 44th and 6th to MSG,” Hargitay shared in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. She noted that her footwear provided both confidence and comfort for the 10-block dash: “I knew everything was going to be alright, because I was wearing my Jalen Brunson Kobe 5 Protos that Jalen gave me a few months ago.”

An Epic Comeback

Hargitay’s hustle was rewarded with one of the most memorable nights in sports history. The Knicks pulled off a massive comeback, erasing a 29-point halftime deficit to defeat the Spurs 107-106. The victory puts the Knicks on the brink of their first championship since 1973, holding a 3-1 series lead.

The rally was punctuated by heroics from Jalen Brunson, who finished with 36 points, and OG Anunoby, who dropped 33. With just 1.2 seconds remaining, Anunoby tipped in a miss from a Brunson 3-point attempt to seal the win.

For Hargitay, the experience was unforgettable. “I love my husband, and our wedding night was great and all, but I think it might have been the greatest night of my life,” she wrote. “The game was so brutal, down 29 at the half, but I’m telling you, to watch this team fight and claw their way back... And then OG comes flying in... it’s just pandemonium.”

The series now shifts back to San Antonio, where the Knicks will have their first opportunity to clinch the title in Game 5 this Saturday night.
