‘It scared me to death’: Former First Lady recalls frightening moment of Joe Biden’s campaign
"As I watched it I thought, 'Oh my god he's having a stroke.'"
Former First Lady Jill Biden is opening up about the tense moments that unfolded during the 2024 presidential debate in Atlanta. According to 205focus.com, she revealed that she genuinely feared for her husband’s health while watching his performance on stage.
A Frightening Experience
In an excerpt from an upcoming interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” Jill Biden explained that the moment Joe Biden struggled to find his words and lost his train of thought was completely unprecedented in her experience with him. She told CBS News’ Rita Braver, “I wasn’t horrified, I was frightened. Because I never, ever seen Joe like that before or since.”
Fear of a Medical Crisis
The former first lady did not mince words regarding the severity of her concern at the time. “I don’t know what happened,” she stated during the interview. “As I watched it, I thought ‘oh my god he’s having a stroke.’ And it scared me to death.”
The Aftermath
The performance in Atlanta triggered significant political fallout, fueling momentum behind calls for the president to withdraw from the race. Joe Biden ultimately ended his re-election campaign in late July 2024. Vice President Kamala Harris took over the ticket but was defeated by Donald Trump in October of that year.
