Important deadline fast approaching for Huntsville city election

Huntsville voters have a fast-approaching deadline to prepare for the upcoming municipal election on Aug. 25. If you plan on casting a ballot, you must register by Monday, Aug. 10.

What is on the ballot?

Voters will determine the future of several key local offices. The City Council seats for District 2, District 3, and District 4 are all up for grabs. Additionally, the Huntsville City Schools Board of Education has contested races in District 2 and District 3.

In District 4, incumbent Ryan Renaud has already secured his reelection after the City Council declared him the winner as the sole qualifying candidate. Other city leaders, including Mayor Tommy Battle and Council members Michelle Watkins (District 1) and John Meredith (District 5), will not face reelection until 2028.

How to Register and Vote

To ensure you are eligible to participate, verify your status or complete your registration through the Alabama Secretary of State’s office. You can register online or request a physical form to be mailed to the Madison County or Limestone County Boards of Registrars. If you need a form mailed to you, contact the Office of the Secretary of State, Elections Division, P.O. Box 5616, Montgomery, AL 36103.

Absentee Voting Details

Absentee voting is currently open. If you are voting by mail, your ballot must be postmarked by Aug. 24 and arrive no later than noon on Aug. 25. Deadlines to apply for absentee ballots are Aug. 18 for mail requests and Aug. 20 for in-person requests. The deadline for emergency absentee ballots is Aug. 24.
