U.S. House bill would provide $16.5 million for north Alabama infrastructure projects
Funding for Northern Bypass, Blake Bottom Road and Wall Triana Highway included in legislation.
North Alabama is set for a major infrastructure boost. U.S. Rep. Dale Strong, R-Monrovia, announced on Monday that the U.S. House is slated to vote on a spending bill that earmarks $16.5 million for local transportation and development projects.
Investing in the Tennessee Valley
The allocation is part of the FY27 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development bill. As a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee overseeing these sectors, Strong emphasized that the legislation is designed to prioritize critical investments in highways, airports, spaceports, railroads, and maritime assets.
Key roadway projects highlighted in the bill include the Northern Bypass, Blake Bottom Road, and the Wall Triana Highway. According to Strong, these developments are vital to keeping infrastructure in line with the region's rapid expansion.
Targeted Growth and Reliability
"As north Alabama leads in growth, innovation, and economic opportunity, I am committed to ensuring our infrastructure investments keep pace with that success," Strong said in a statement reported by 205focus.com. "I am proud to advance targeted investments for north Alabama that reduce traffic congestion, support our growing communities, and speed the delivery of transformational transportation projects."
Beyond road improvements, the funding package aims to provide a comprehensive lift to the region, including:
- Improving critical roadways across Lawrence, Morgan, and Madison Counties.
- Expanding essential transportation corridors throughout Huntsville, Madison, and Decatur.
- Enhancing infrastructure and investment at Huntsville International Airport.
- Strengthening long-term energy reliability through a new natural gas pipeline.
"I will always work to strengthen the Tennessee Valley’s infrastructure, support continued economic growth, and improve quality of life for the families, workers, and businesses who call North Alabama home," added Strong.
Funded Projects
The legislation explicitly directs federal support toward several high-impact initiatives, including the Northern Bypass, Blake Bottom Road, and the Wall Triana Highway project.
