Navy brings live concerts to bases: Shaquille O’Neal, Miranda Lambert among performers

The U.S. Navy is bringing major star power directly to its installations with a massive new initiative dubbed Operation MWR. Sailors and their families are set to enjoy free, world-class live entertainment featuring heavy hitters like Miranda Lambert, Teddy Swims, and Shaquille O’Neal—who will be taking the stage as DJ Diesel.
A Global Concert Series
This expansive tour kicked off on Aug. 8 at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Washington, which hosted performances by Fitz and The Tantrums and Alana Springsteen, according to militarytimes.com. The Navy officially announced in a press release on Aug. 7 that the series will span 50 different Navy installations across the globe, running through April 2027.
Boosting Morale Through Music
The program is centered on the concept of "Quality of Service," focusing on the well-being of the force. Vice Adm. Scott Gray, commander of Navy Installations Command, emphasized the importance of these initiatives for those in uniform and their loved ones.
"Quality of Service is about ensuring our Sailors and their families have the support, connections and opportunities they need to thrive," said Gray. "Programs like Operation MWR help reduce stress, strengthen unit and family support networks, and sustain the personal resilience Sailors need to meet demanding operational requirements. Taking care of our people helps ensure they are prepared to answer the call when and where the Navy needs them."
